Curriculum Overview – Year 7 to 12
At Redcliffe Special School, we provide a rich and engaging curriculum for students from Year 7 to Year 12, designed to support individual learning needs, interests, and pathways beyond school. Our programs combine the Australian Curriculum, Applied Senior Syllabuses, and practical life skills to prepare students for meaningful participation in their community, further education, or employment.
Junior Secondary (Year 7 – 10)
Our Junior secondary students follow a curriculum based on the Australian Curriculum and Key Learning Areas. Students are supported to access age equivalent learning through an Individual Curriculum Plan (ICP) to meet their learning goals and needs.
In addition to academic learning, students engage in:
- Respectful Relationships Education to build social and emotional skills and promote positive interactions.
- Career Education, which introduces students to the world of work and explores interests, strengths, and future aspirations.
From Year 9, students and their families begin PATH (Planning Alternative Tomorrows with Hope) planning. This is a person-centred planning process that supports students to set goals and identify dreams for their future, helping guide a successful transition into senior secondary schooling and beyond.
In Year 10, all students participate in the Senior Education and Training (SET) Planning process. This allows students to explore subject choices, identify areas of interest, and begin planning a meaningful senior pathway that aligns with their goals and future options.
Senior Secondary (Year 11 – 12)
Our Senior Secondary curriculum is focused on preparing students for life after school, whether that be through continued learning, employment, or active and meaningful participation in the community. Students engage with the Applied Senior Syllabus subjects, which are adapted and mapped within the Guideline for Individual Learning (GIL) framework to ensure accessibility.
Senior programs may also include:
- Vocational Education and Training (VET) courses, are available for eligible and interested students. This will provide students with nationally recognised qualifications and practical workplace skills.
- Continued career planning and work-related learning, helping students explore interests, build employability skills, and experience different work and community environments.
- Ongoing Respectful Relationships Education and personal and social capability development to support independence and wellbeing.
Our goal is to equip every student with the skills, knowledge, and confidence to transition successfully into life beyond school.
